Seasonal Employment

Welcome to the the Ithaca Youth Bureau's seasonal employment page! The Youth Bureau is committed to a work environment that is equitable, where every individual can thrive. We serve over 7,500 youth ages 0-20 annually and rely on seasonal staff to help our programs support participants by providing them with fun, safe experiences that help them: be active, grow, expand their horizons, develop empathy and a sense of belonging, try new things, build skills and gain confidence. 

We are seeking staff who are passionate and enthusiastic about working with children and families to join our team. We value diverse perspectives and encourage people of all backgrounds to apply, including people of color, women, people who identify as LGBTQ+, veterans, people with disabilities and those with lived experiences. Our programs have a variety of seasonal employment opportunities, available throughout the year, listed below. 
Please note: availability of positions changes from year to year and season to season.

3. If the job is offered to you, you'll be asked to fill out additional paperwork

*All Ithaca Youth Bureau seasonal positions working with youth, require a background check, references and a hiring process which will include an interview.

Interviews and hiring for summer are typically conducted in April and May.
  • Camp Director, Co-Director or Assistant Director (minimum age 21)
  • Camp Nurse (EMT, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Physician license)
  • Assistant Instructor  (Art, Drama/Theatre, Golf, Tennis, minimum age 16)
  • Assistant Managers at Cass Park Pool (Minimum age 18)
  • Bicycle Mechanic at Ithaca Bike Rental
  • Camp Activity Specialist (Archery, Art, Boating, Drama, Nature, Recreation, Tennis, minimum age 18, will consider age 16 and up)
  • Camp Inclusion Specialist for a child with a disability (minimum age 18)
  • Cashiers at Cass Park Pool (minimum age 16)
  • College Discovery Program (CDP) Summer Academy Assistant (minimum age 18)
  • Ithaca Bike Rental Associate (minimum age 18)
  • Junior Camp Counselor (minimum age 16)
  • Lead Instructor (Art, Drama/Theatre, Golf, Tennis, minimum age 18)
  • Lifeguards at Cass Park Pool or Stewart Park Camp (camp requires waterfront certification)
  • Senior Camp Counselors (minimum age 18)
  • Swim Instructors (minimum age 16 with prior experience) 
  • Youth Employment Service Representative (YES Rep) (Minimum age 18)

Interviews and hiring for school year are typically conducted in late summer or early fall.
  • Assistant Instructor  (Art, Dance, Drama/Theatre, minimum age 16)
  • Ice Skating Instructor (Excellent skating ability required, mid-October thorough mid-April, minimum age 16)
  • Lead Instructor (Art, Dance, Drama/Theatre, minimum age 18)
  • Program Assistant (Outings Program, minimum age 18)
  • Roller Skate Rink Attendant (Spring through Fall, minimum age 18 with CPR & 1st Aid certifications)
  • Tot Spot Assistant ( mid-October through mid-April, minimum age 14)
  • Tot Spot Lead Staff (Mid-October through mid-April, minimum age 18)

  • Ice Skating Instructor (Excellent skating ability required, mid-October thorough mid-April, minimum age 16)

  • Skate Sharpener (minimum age 18)
